Reuben Sliders: Small Size, Big Flavor!

Admin

Where I live, corned beef appears on sale around this time of year. I seize this opportunity and love creating Reuben Sliders as a perfect appetizer for St. Patrick’s Day parties. They are straightforward to assemble, requiring only a few delicious and straightforward ingredients. Instead of the traditional Reuben sandwich, which uses Rye bread, these sliders can be put together quickly for any gathering, making them an excellent choice for holidays and whenever you need an easy appetizer.

Reuben Sliders are mini sandwiches with corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and dressing. Bite-sized and delicious!

Drawing from the best parts of the classic dish, these sliders maintain all the beloved flavours that make Reubens a colossal hit. Whenever I serve them, guests always express how much they love them. If you like Reubens, these sliders will be your new go-to for impressing guests with minimal effort.

What are Reubens?

Despite common misconceptions, Reubens, an American creation, initially had no direct association with St. Patrick’s Day. These delectable sandwiches are a staple on many menus across the United States. Constructed from layers of corned beef, Swiss cheese, and Sauerkraut and slathered with either Russian dressing or Thousand Island dressing on Rye bread, Reubens offers a savoury taste that is both unique and comforting. Having enjoyed these during various diner visits, I’ve found that the Reuben captures a slice of American culinary innovation. Whether served in traditional settings or featured as a trendy slider, the Reuben continues to impress with its robust flavours and satisfying textures.

What Ingredients Are Needed for Reuben Sliders?

Making Reuben Sliders is a delightful experience, mainly when you use the right ingredients. Start with King’s Hawaiian rolls or similar rolls. They are soft and slightly sweet, which perfectly complements the savoury fillings.

Next, you’ll need Deli sliced corned beef. If you have leftover roasted corned beef, that works just as well, adding a homemade touch. The meat should be thinly sliced to layer well in the sliders.

Go with Swiss cheese for the cheese. Its mild flavour and melting quality make it ideal for these sliders.

Sauerkraut is essential for that classic Reuben flavour. Drain and squeeze out as much moisture as possible to avoid soggy sliders.

Top everything with Thousand Island Dressing. This adds a tangy sweetness that ties all the flavours together.

To assemble, spread Butter mixed with Garlic Powder on top of the rolls. This gives the rolls a deliciously aromatic crust. Brush with Worcestershire Sauce and sprinkle with Everything Bagel seasoning or plain poppy seeds for extra flavour.

These sliders are quick to make and incredibly satisfying. The combination of King’s Hawaiian rolls, corned beef, Swiss cheese, and Sauerkraut, all brought together with Thousand Island Dressing, makes for a perfect bite every time. Enjoy this treat, and your family will thank you!

How to Make Reuben Sliders

Preheat your oven to 350°F and prepare to mix the herbed Butter by combining all the ingredients. Set this aside. Brush this Butter on the rolls before you bake the Reuben Sliders. While you can use regular Butter, the herbed Butter enhances the flavour of this classic Reuben recipe, taking it to the next level.

Start by splitting the Hawaiian rolls in half and placing the bottoms in a greased baking dish. Layer the buns with slices of Swiss cheese (each slice should cover about two rolls), then add corned beef, Sauerkraut, and dressing. Repeat with another layer of corned beef and Swiss cheese. Use the tops of the rolls to cover the layers and brush them with the melted herbed Butter. Cover the sliders with tin foil and bake for 20 minutes until the cheese is hot and bubbly. Remove the tin foil and let them bake uncovered for another 5 minutes until the rolls are golden brown.

How to Serve Sliders

When serving delicious Reuben Sliders, I always ensure they’re served right out of the oven. These tasty treats are no exception to the rule of serving hot food. I typically cut the sliders using the rolls as a guideline. To avoid setting a hot dish on the table, I occasionally stack them on a plate, which helps keep the heat in. This way, the sliders stay warm and ready to serve whenever you like.

Can I Make Reuben Sliders With Leftover Corned Beef?

Absolutely! I love making reubens with leftover corned beef. I make corned beef for St. Patrick’s Day every March. After enjoying it with some potatoes, I save a bit for later. To use it for sliders, I follow these simple steps. First, I refer to the photos above and take a slice or two of the corned beef, depending on its thickness. Then, I assemble the rest of the ingredients per the instructions below. This method ensures I can still enjoy my favourite flavours after the holiday meal.

Substitutions For Reuben Sliders

You can try some great substitutions if you want to switch up your Reuben sliders. Montreal’sTheir famous Reuben variation in Montreal includes smoked meat and pastrami instead of the traditional corned beef. This reminds me of the rich flavours from kosher delis, where pastrami is a staple. Whether you opt for turkey or pastrami, both make excellent alternatives to corned beef.

Another twist involves swapping Russian dressing for Thousand Island dressing. Both dressings are delicious, but Russian dressing remains the traditional choice. If you enjoy cole slaw, you might prefer the Rachel Sandwich, which replaces the classic Sauerkraut with cole slaw. This substitution offers a different texture and taste, making it just as delightful. With these variations, your Reuben sliders can be customized to suit any preference.

What Goes Well with Reuben Sliders?

If you’re looking for the perfect sides to serve with your Reuben sliders, you’ll want to consider various delicious options that complement the sliders’ rich flavours. From my experience, a green salad adds a refreshing touch to the meal. For something more indulgent, French or sweet potato fries are always a hit, providing that satisfying crunch. I love pairing them with onion rings for some extra flavour.

For those who enjoy traditional sides, potato salad and coleslaw are classic choices that never disappoint. If you’re in the mood for something unique, German-style potato pancakes offer a hearty option. On game days, tater tots and deviled eggs make great finger foods. To impress, try serving blooming onions or fried pickles for a fun twist. And, of course, you can go right with simple pickles or baked potatoes to round out the meal.
